Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who created this network, and why?
A: The concept of the ONT was originally created by a group of trustees in Collingwood, following a conference on sustainable development for cities and schools. Trustees felt that many exciting ideas were generated, but that no communications vehicle yet existed for proper discussion and debate between trustees from different boards and different geographical locations across Ontario.
Q: Are Catholic and French board trustees invited to participate?
A: Yes, ONT membership has come to the consensus that including the voices of all trustees in the province will serve to benefit the organization by promoting a diversity of perspectives and debate. We all share the common goal of increasing student success in our province.
Q: I've heard the ONT exists to lobby for a single publicly funded school system, is this true?
A: No, absolutely not. While many trustees in our forum will wish to debate the merits of a single publicly funded school system, the ONT exists only to provide and promote the environment for such a debate (indeed any education-related debate). The ONT is inviting trustees from the Catholic and French boards to participate in our forum precisely to increase dialogue concerning issues that should be discussed through collaborative effort.
Q: What is the ONT's relationship with OPSBA?
A: The ONT wishes to work collaboratively with OPSBA to facilitate provincial trustee to trustee dialogue. As the ONT does not advocate for any specific political position or policy, the ONT does not compete with OPSBA as a political advocacy group or trustee association.
Q: Is there a membership fee?
A: There is no fee to join the online forum. Fees associated with seminars and conferences have yet to be determined.
